The Center for Oncology Prevention (COP) primarily provides consultation services in the field of non-malignant, pre-malignant or malignant pathologies of the lower genital tract (cervix, vagina, external female genitals) and in selected cases also of uterine cavity pathology. The COP is located in the outpatient clinic of the Gynecology and Obstetrics Department and it comprises also a cytology laboratory, which is also used as a depistation cytological laboratory for district gynecologists. The COP provides diagnostic possibilities of detection, and in regards to the gynecology inpatient unit also therapeutic options for not only the cervical pathologies but also pathologies of the whole lower genital tract. A part of the primary examination is sampling with the determination of the microscopic vaginal flora, sampling for bacterial culture with the determination of antibiotics sensitivity, the collection of gene probes for chlamydia or HPV infection (Human Papilloma Virus) which may be the initiator of cancer of cervix, vagina or external genitals. The examination also includes colposcopic examination at the level of the ‘colposcopic expertise’. In selected cases a biopsy for histological examination of samples of the affected tissue is performed. The outpatient clinic is equipped with top-quality devices including photo-stereo-colposcope with a digital recorder, which enables not only the patient to see her finding and therefore to better understand the nature of the disease, but above all to compare the findings from individual examinations with the assessment of the development of the pathological deposits. An obvious part of the services which are provided is also follow-up of the women after the treatment of pathologies of the lower genital tract.
