Administrative reception section ensures the tasks related to administrative admission of patients. Administrative admission of patients is performed by administrative employees of the section in accordance with defined procedures via the hospital information system using the CLINICOM program (i.e. completion of case report with personal data, entry of patient's master data, print of specified documentation, instructions relating to valuables and clothes and their safekeeping, completion, registration and distribution of issued work incapability certificates).

Administrative admission of the patient takes place in three separate boxes situated at the main entrance into the hospital. The operation is ensured continuously 24 hours a day. On weekdays from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Out of these hours, the service is ensured always by one employee from the master employees of the central reception according to the monthly breakdown.

When the master data is entered into NIS, patient instructed about safekeeping of valuables, consent of the patient and confirmation of these statements by signature, the patient is taken to the central change room cabin.

 

Central Patients' Belongings Storage

The central belongings storage is used for the acceptance, registration, storage and issue of personal belongings and valuables of patients. Changing cabins are available for patients and personal belongings are stored in designated areas on clothes stands. Valuables are stored in the central safe-deposit vault. The central storage is open on weekdays from 6 am to 2.30 pm and on Saturdays from 7 am to 12 am. Outside these hours, personal belongings and valuables of patients are not issued from the central cloakroom.
The central storage staff escort patients to the department and deliver them to the nurse of the appropriate department together with all documentation.

 

Urgent reception section

The task of the reception is treatment and admission of patients with imminent failure or failure of basic vital functions, polytraumatized patients and patients with combined injuries and serious monotrauma.

Patients are brought in based on the call of Emergency Call Centre (direct phone and radio connection) by means of pre-hospital urgent care (rapid medical rescue, rapid paramedical rescue, air rescue service) in continuous operation 24 hours a day. These patients are admitted and treated in the urgent reception hall. After stabilization of basic vital functions, performance of urgent procedures, or after operation, as appropriate, and after the diagnosis is completed, the patients are hospitalized at ICUs of individual departments and the Clinic of Anaesthesiology and Resuscitation of the University Hospital Ostrava.

The department has established close co-operation with department and clinics of the University Hospital Ostrava; consulting services of all main professions, laboratory examinations and complementary examination methods, particularly ultrasound, X-ray and CT, angio examination are available. This availability is the guarantee of prompt evaluation of the patient's health condition and their referring to further care to the relevant department, where they will be treated on high professional level.

The task of the urgent reception is also the consulting activity within the University Hospital Ostrava in cases of acute danger to life (cardiopulmonary resuscitation). This activity is ensured by resuscitation team (physician, nursing staff).Apart from standard equipment for routine clinical examination, urgent reception is also equipped by instruments for performance of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. It has also transport, monitoring and ventilation technology available.

 

Errand Services Unit

The Unit of Errand Services of the Central Admission Department is a group within UHO whose main task is to fulfill services by way of running errands 24 hours a day on behalf of the respective medical departments; collecting and delivering biological specimens and results of laboratory tests, collection and delivery of blood derivatives and securing the removal of the deceased from medical centers.
Responsibility for organization of the run of the department, supervision of task fulfillment on the part of the Errand Services and the working duties of its employees is borne by the section manager directly subordinate to the Head Nurse of the Department of the Central Admission.
